Place of Welcome

About Place of Welcome
“Place of Welcome” is the flagship of our Community Services. Typically attended by 40 people each week, it is a much valued resource in the Sparkhill community for local people to come together for friendship, food and social activities including cooking, knitting, crochet, board games and pool.

Place of Welcome The Springfield Project

Place of Welcome The Springfield Project

Place of Welcome is held every Thursday during term time, 1-3pm at The Springfield Centre, Springfield Road, Moseley, Birmingham, B13 9NY.

We look forward to seeing you for free hot food and drinks, and friendly conversation. All welcome!

We are currently offering a free housing advice drop-in service at the Place of Welcome provided by Central England Law Centre. CELC uses its knowledge and legal expertise in social welfare law to protect the rights of those in need. Contact us on 0121 777 2722 or email [email protected] with any questions.

Place of Welcome The Springfield Project

The cooking group meets each Thursday at 12pm to prepare and cook the hot meal together. If you would like to join this friendly group, then come to the Springfield Centre at 12pm. Ingredients are provided and no experience is necessary. We welcome your ideas for recipes to try – we have enjoyed inspiring meals from all over the world.

We are proud to be a part of the national Warm Welcome scheme. We want to ensure everyone in Sparkhill has an open invitation to a warm and welcoming space so they can connect with others, get the support they need and feel part of their local community.

🌟 Mini Springers Shout-Out 🌟 @mini_springers Our 🌟 Mini Springers Shout-Out 🌟 @mini_springers

Our last shout-out of the half-term at Mini Springers goes to our deputy, Shazia! 💚

Shazia always goes above and beyond for families, ensuring they get all the support they need. She has also done brilliantly getting the parents' wellbeing club up and running, and held two fabulous end-of-term parties for the wellbeing parents. She will continue these clubs in September for new and returning parents.

Thank you, Shazia.

🌞 School Readiness Stay and Play Startwell Stay a 🌞 School Readiness Stay and Play Startwell Stay and Play at Cannon Hill Park at Cannon Hill Park🌞 Startwell

🌳 Our School Readiness Stay and Play and Startwell Stay and Play families had a fantastic day exploring the beautiful Cannon Hill Park! It was a wonderful opportunity for children and parents to enjoy the outdoors while supporting children's learning, development, and well-being.

🌳 The children had lots of fun exploring the adventure playground, running through the open green spaces, and discovering nature around the park. Through active play with Active Azra, they developed their gross motor skills, balance, coordination, and confidence while keeping physically active.

🌳 Our activities also encouraged Sammy Skills, giving children opportunities to mark make, communicate, problem-solve, and use their imagination through play and exploration. Families enjoyed spending quality time together, making new friends, and creating lasting memories.

🌳 As Suzy Startwell Role Model, we encouraged families to enjoy healthy outdoor activities, build positive routines, and recognise how regular physical activity and time spent in nature support children's health, wellbeing, and readiness for school.
Children also completed the 180 Katie Challenge, encouraging them to be active while exploring the park, walking, running, climbing, and enjoying movement throughout the day.

🌳 The visit highlighted how simple outdoor experiences can help children develop confidence, resilience, communication, and independence—all important skills for starting school.

A huge thank you to all the families who joined us. We hope you had as much fun as we did! 💚
