Youth Programme

Our youth programme is growing, shaped by young people and focused on opportunity, voice and community pride.

In Spring 2024, we worked with a group of Year 12 students from Moseley School to run a Youth Community Research project. They interviewed their peers about what it’s like growing up in Sparkhill, what they enjoy, what feels difficult, and what opportunities they want. They presented their findings at Birmingham Council House, and their insights are helping us build a youth offer that genuinely fits young people’s lives.

Youth Volunteering (Ages 14+)

Youth Programme The Springfield Project

Volunteering is a great way to build experience, meet other young people and make a difference locally. If you are working towards a DofE Award, an application to further education or employment this is the perfect opportunity for you. Opportunities include helping at holiday playschemes, events and after-school clubs.

Youth Advisory Board

Youth Programme The Springfield Project

Our Youth Advisory Board is a group of passionate young people aged 14 – 18 who want to have a real say in shaping activities, projects and decisions that affect children and young people in Sparkhill.

Members work together in a supportive, youth-led space to share ideas, discuss local issues and help guide the direction of our work. We value young people’s lived experiences and it is very important that they are given a platform to influence and make positive change in their community.

Young people involved also have opportunities to support events, take part in research or consultation, funding applications, represent young people’s views, and help shape new ideas for the future.

The Springfield Project is a safe and welcoming space where people from diverse backgrounds in our community can meet and receive support.

Here are some highlights from our Creative Wednesd Here are some highlights from our Creative Wednesday! 🎨✨

Our Creative Wednesdays art group had an exciting trip to see their own work on display, as part of the Unlocking the Vaults launch event at the Exchange, Birmingham.

The exhibition celebrates the heritage and stories of the Exchange building which used to be the headquarters of Birmingham Municipal Bank. The bank, once a major feature of Birmingham life, was opened after the First World War as a means for the people of the city to rebuild their lives. It even had a branch here in Sparkhill.

Our participants, working with group leader Sajida Asif, produced a beautiful quilt, using cyanotype photography and embroidery, responding to these stories and their own memories of visiting the Municipal Bank. The quilt is on display as part of the free exhibition until Nov 7th at the Exchange Building, Centenary Square.
