Events

Events The Springfield Project

We run free community events that bring families together for play, creativity and shared experiences. Some events are big celebration days, and others are simple “come and play” sessions where we model fun activities families can do at home too and many without a cost.

Keep an eye on this page for upcoming dates or contact us if you’d like to be added to our updates list.

Events The Springfield Project

Growing Up Green Festival (June)

A joyful outdoor festival celebrating nature, play and creativity. Families can enjoy hands-on activities, arts and crafts, outdoor play and simple ways to connect with the natural world. The festival encourages children to explore, care for green spaces and feel proud of their local environment.

Picnic in the Park (August – to celebrate National Play Day)

A relaxed, family-friendly event in Sparkhill Park where children and families can come together to play, take part in activities and enjoy time outdoors. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic, join in with games and creative activities, and enjoy a shared community experience in a local green space.

Festival of Sparkhill (October half-term)

A community celebration showcasing all that is great about Sparkhill through children’s eyes. The festival brings together performances, exhibitions, creative activities and storytelling inspired by local history, culture and everyday life. It celebrates children’s voices, creativity and pride in their neighbourhood.

Light Up the Night (October half-term)

A magical autumn evening event bringing families together as the nights draw in. Children can take part in creative light-based activities, crafts and performances, helping to transform local spaces into something special and memorable. The event promotes togetherness, safety and joy in the darker months.

The Springfield Project is a safe and welcoming space where people from diverse backgrounds in our community can meet and receive support.

At National Storytelling Week, we had been busy br At National Storytelling Week, we had been busy bringing stories to life! That day’s REAL (Raising Early Achievement in Literacy) visit focused on farmyard fun with one of our youngest learners.

At just 1 year old, this little star dived deep into interactive animal books. By using the rhythm of “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” her parents turned reading into a concert of animal sounds and repetition—the perfect recipe for early language skills! 🎶🐄

The child required some physical modeling to navigate felt stickers, specifically to develop fine motor skills. To encourage continued progress alongside her siblings, the family was provided with an activity list, a Bookstart pack, and a “My First Marks” set.

🌟 School Readiness Stay & Play! 🌟 Startwell A fu 🌟 School Readiness Stay & Play! 🌟 Startwell

A fun Stay & Play highlighting the importance of staying active, sharing 180 Katie Startwell’s message: “Make physical activity part of the daily routine at home.”

Toddlers aged 1—3 years should spend at least 180 minutes (3 hours) per day in a variety of physical activities at any intensity, spread throughout the day.
Children enjoyed dancing to the Startwell music with “180 Katie says Come Dance With Me.”
