Building Greener Communities

Building Greener Communities The Springfield Project

Building Greener Communities The Springfield Project

Building Greener Communities is a three-year project by ecobirmingham, supported by money from the National Lottery Community Fund. It will help two local groups in Birmingham: The Springfield Project and Allens Cross

Building Greener Communities The Springfield Project

The project will bring activities and improvements focused on sustainability to Sparkhill and Allens Cross. Sustainability means making things better for the environment and for people now and in the future. Our goal is to make the areas greener and help people live healthier and happier lives. You can learn more about the groups and areas here.

Building Greener Communities (BGC) focuses on three main things:

  1. Eco-Activities and Ways to Get Involved: Different activities for people in the community to learn about and live in a sustainable way. For example:
    • Exploring nature: We are running guided walks and activities to help people connect with green spaces.
    • Healthy cooking: We are running air fryer classes for people to learn to cook healthy food easily and affordably. Free equipment will be given!
    • Saving energy: We have had visits with tips and advice to help people use less energy and save money.
    • Activities for children: We are planning more fun and learning activities about nature and crafts for young people.
  2. Sustainability Plans: Sustainability means helping everyone have what they need and a good life now, without making life worse for people in the future. Ecobirmingham will work with The Springfield Project and Allens Cross to create plans to:
    • Make our buildings and spaces more sustainable.
    • Encourage the people who use our services and the local community to do activities that help the environment.
    • Make the areas around our buildings nicer, like planting trees and cleaning up rubbish.
  3. Action Plans for the Whole Area: For Sparkhill and Allens Cross, ecobirmingham will help create plans based on:
    • Research and talking to people: To understand what the local community needs.
    • Working with others: Partnering with other groups and people who care about the environment.
    • Local guides for sustainability: We will create lists of local resources, experts, and services related to sustainability.

Our Big Goal

Together with ecobirmingham we want to reach a point where 25% of homes in the area regularly do something to help sustainability.

This new, long-term project will make the environment greener and help people in the community be healthier and happier.

If you live in the area, are part of a group, or work with the community and want to get involved or learn more, feel free to contact ecobirmingham here!

🌙 Eid al-Fitr Celebration at our School Readiness 🌙 Eid al-Fitr Celebration at our School Readiness Stay and Play 🌙 Startwell

During our session, we talked with families about Eid al-Fitr, a special Muslim celebration that marks the end of the month of fasting, Ramadan.

It was a valuable opportunity to discuss diverse cultures and celebrations while supporting children and families in learning about important community events.

We discussed how many Muslim families celebrate Eid by coming together with loved ones, enjoying special meals, exchanging gifts, and giving to charity. It is also a time for forgiveness and gratitude.

Families learned that people often wear their best clothes, decorate their homes, and attend special Eid prayers at the Mosque. Eid is also a time for Muslims to thank Allah for guiding them through the previous month and helping them practise patience and self-control. 🌙✨
