Attendance Policy

Safeguarding:

The safety and wellbeing of children is important to us all.  If you are concerned about any child talk to any member of staff or call our Family Support Team on 0121 777 2722.

Attendance Policy The Springfield ProjectAttendance Policy The Springfield Project

Attendance is a key marker of child welfare, and as such, monitoring of attendance is viewed as one aspect of good safeguarding practice (See safeguarding policy).

Children are expected to attend Mini Springers and park road Nursery regularly and to arrive promptly.

The session times are listed below.

Session times

Morning Nursery:           8.45am     –    11.45am

Afternoon Nursery:        12.45pm   –     3.45pm

30 hours funded children:     9am -3pm

Early years entitlement (EEE)

Parents/carers are asked to avoid medical appointments/shopping trips etc. during nursery hours.  Written permission for holidays must be sought, from the Nursery Manager and a holiday booking form to be signed by parent and Manager.  There is 4 weeks holiday entitlement for nursery children per academic year.

Parents/carers that do not comply with nursery holidays may result in loss of their child’s EEE place.  If a child does not return to nursery and no contact made we will follow the “Child Missing In Education” procedure and contact the Early Years’ Service Duty Line (0121 675-4996) to discuss the child’s welfare and EEE place.

Parents/carers are asked to:

  • Bring and collect children promptly as it is very distressing for children to arrive late or to be left until last.
  • Ensure that children are brought and collected by a responsible adult.
  • Ensure that children (unless it is an emergency and the senior has been informed) are not collected from nursery during the middle of a session. This is disruptive to staff and children.
  • Ensure at least 2 contact numbers on each child’s file. Where this is not possible we will risk assess individual family situations as earlier intervention may be required (for example, has a parent who has newly arrived to the country without family, friends, familiar neighbours etc).
  • Please inform the nursery if your child will be absent. Parents will be made aware of this policy during the induction process, highlighting the importance of notifying the nursery about absences. Additionally, if a parent does not contact the nursery and all emergency contacts are unreachable, the nursery will implement its safeguarding policy.

Absences/Monitoring

Attendance and absences are monitored by management on Tapestry, at the end of the academic year Tapestry will produce an attendance percentage, which will be logged on the child’s file.

Where parents have informed staff that their child will not be in, this information must be passed onto manager to save management calling parents.

All staff record the times that children in their groups arrive on Tapestry (late /collected). If there is a pattern of late arrival or irregular attendance this is highlighted to the key person for that child. They will speak informally to the parents/carers to determine whether or not there is a problem.

Management will aim to contact all parents on the first day of a child’s absence. If this is not possible, management will make sure to call when the child has been absent for two consecutive sessions, unless the parents have already informed us about the absence. Please refer to the sickness and illness policy for more information.

If no contact is made with a family during a working week, including all emergency contacts, we will intervene by contacting health visitors or CASS on 0121 303 1888.

If attendance/punctuality does not improve then a letter will be sent, and if no improvements is seen this may lead to a place being withdrawn.

All phone calls and messages received to and from parents regarding attendance will be logged on the childs CR8 form to help monitor gaps, patterns and concerns.

This policy was revised- June 2025 by Nursery Manager

Review date: February 2027

10th – 14th June: Healthy Eating Workshop 🍎🥕🍌

With the recent Department for Education Early Years Nutrition Guidance, there has never been a better time to focus on the importance of healthy eating with our children and families.

At our School Readiness Stay and Play sessions, we linked in all of the nutrition characters, including Fay Five a Day, Mickey Me Size, and 2 Snacks Max. Families explored the different food groups and learned about the important role they play in helping to keep our bodies healthy and strong.
The children enjoyed talking about healthy foods, sorting foods into groups, and learning how making healthy choices can help them grow, stay active, and feel their best. 🍓🥦🥛

While the parents joined our Home Safety Workshop, the children were busy exploring, creating, and learning new skills.

We talked about keeping those "belly buttons moving" some children were navigating the small tricycles and chasing their peers through the tunnels.

Building blocks and playdough creations were everywhere. We saw massive improvements in the children pouring their own drinks, and some of our newest friends even practiced chopping fruit with a knife!
